In my work, I explore how the feminine body is viewed and expectations are placed upon it. The starting point of my work is often working with natural processes that often surround growth and change, such as birth, death, production and degradation. I am interested in the words themselves, how they are loaded with connotations.
I enjoy working with materials that respond to these words and my own body, exploring how I can transform them to demonstrate or subvert the processes they respond to. As someone who identifies as female I am interested in how the feminine body, in particular the naked body, is viewed. I see my own body as a lens through which the processes I am exploring can be seen in relation to the female body and social concepts of being female. In the form of my work I create process based work where I perform the transformation of materials to create a final image/ sculpture. I see performance as a process that cannot be repeated. In my work, I try to experiment with what it means for performance art to be permanent or ephemeral in the materials I use.
